Publish or perish
Because I'm immersed in my studies 24/7, a former work colleague commented that they hoped that they would see my name in a journal soon, although he doubted that he'd read it. And that pretty much sums up the divide between academia and real life.
But I got to thinking, back in the last millennium a I earned a few dollars for professors during my undergraduate years, and they promised to put my name on the papers. At the time, I didn't much care about an academic career and never followed up. At all. So twenty-plus years later, and with the help of Google, I now present my full academic publishing record :-)
