Return of the hermit

Ron on Mt Loch

I just returned from a week with my family skiing at Mt Hotham. We've had a better season than the declining average. The best part was being able to ski freely all over the mountain with 5-year-old Gillian. It was good to get away and I hope to do it again before the snow melts.

I took this self-image after soloing up a knoll a short distance from the lift-serviced area on my telemark gear (note the pink skins for uphill grip).

Special thanks to my friend David for collecting the skis newly purchased online from REI in Seattle and shipping them to me at considerably less total cost than what I'd pay in Melbourne. Even if Australia Post doesn't accept inbound packages larger than 36" in length and we had to use DHL (actually, a discount export agent--recommended).
