Public Participation in Europe
A handful of deliberative process practitioners and theorists has recently formed, off their own backs, a non-government organisation called the European Institute for Public Participation, based in Bremen. From a standing start they have produced a report that is superb in it coverage, its contemporariness and its insight into the current state of Public Participation in Europe (PDF, 49 pages). I like their attitude of presenting it as a work in progress. The authors have really made this report accessible to anybody—it is certainly well-written. If I have to give somebody one article that describes the discipline I'm in today, this would be it even though its examples are European. I wish them well.
